Call the Midwife 2018 Christmas Special air time; new Trixie sneak peek!
BBC One has confirmed that in the UK, the Christmas Day special will be airing starting at 7:45 p.m. London time — it’s a part of what is a crowded lineup for the network. Christmas is a night known for important television events in the UK, even though in America it’s often thought of as a night all programmers want to steer clear of.
For those of you located in America, you can check out the Christmas Special on PBS at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time; meanwhile, there is information in the tweet below when it comes to how to watch in Australia.
Just in case you are also interested in getting a new, tiny sneak preview for what’s coming, the tweet also has that for you — after all, Trixie’s back! While we knew that Helen George would be returning as the character moving forward, it’s still nice to actually see her arrive back home after spending months away to work on herself and her sobriety. (In reality, George was temporarily written out of the series for maternity leave — pretty perfect for a show like this.) Trixie is a stable force within Call the Midwife and given all of the changes on the show as of late, we’re more fortunate to have her around than ever before. After all, we lost Barbara at the end of this past season and it’s certainly possible that Tom is also going to be gone from the show moving forward. Not all of the answers on that may be clear in the Christmas Special — the new season itself will kick off on BBC One in January and then on PBS in the spring.
Basically, expect in this Christmas Special something that’s been a part of Call the Midwife for many years now — a mixture of happiness and also sorrow. While these specials are meant to put people in the holiday spirit, there can be a bittersweet feeling that comes with this time of year for some people. Call the Midwife has never been one to stray from telling some of these stories and we imagine that this particular episode will be a reflection of that in its own way. There will be some new characters that we also get a chance to meet; hopefully, they end up being rather likable!
