Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Gwendoline Christie sets up big ending

Brienne

Game of Thrones season 8 is slated to premiere on HBO in the spring, and judging from some early teases, things are going to be epic. After all, you’ll have a chance to see many a big battle, potentially some character deaths, and, in the end, hopefully some sort of element of closure after this super-long journey that we’ve been on.

Of course, trying to get actual spoilers for what lies ahead on the series is a near-impossible task and with that in mind, there’s almost no real point in even trying. Nonetheless, getting small teasers here and there on what’s coming is a totally different story, and that is something that series star Gwendoline Christie (who plays Brienne) was able to offer on some level. Per E! News, she had the following to say about how the series is going to conclude and the emotional reaction that is going to come as a result of it:

I think just the show ending is going to send all of the world into professional help … I think it’s going to make me incredibly emotional. We’re all emotional about the fact that this is the end, and this is the end of something incredibly significant for all of us, and it’s been a truly incredible thing to be a part of.

For Brienne in particular, it’s a wonder that she has made it this far. She is a great example of a character who has taken on a new life of her own on the series as opposed to in the books, and one of the reasons she is so intriguing is simply because her heart and her priorities are in often such a pure place. This is a world in which a lot of characters act and do things in a rather malicious way and here is this person who does still have a tendency to think of things in as pure of a form as humanly possible.

We do think that Brienne is one of those few characters who really deserves to see a life on the other side of the White Walkers and the war that completely envelopes this show, but just because you deserve something doesn’t necessarily mean that you get it. When you think about some of what often happens with this series more of than not, someone like Brienne just doesn’t make it to the end even if you really want her to. The good guys don’t always get to take the victory lap.

The final Game of Thrones season will arrive on HBO once we get around to the month of April.
