The Orville season 2 episode 1 spoilers: First details on premiere!

The Orville

Excited for The Orville season 2 episode 1 to arrive on Fox? If so, you’re going to especially love some of what we’ve gotta say here! The first episode is coming on Sunday, December 30 following NFL football, and the first thing that is worth noting here is the start time. It’s going to vary heavily based on where you are and with that in mind, our biggest big of advice is to just check out when NFL programming is ending on Fox — regardless of whether or not you are watching live or keeping track of the show on your DVR. This could otherwise be a little bit confusing for people out there desperate to keep track of what’s happening here.

As for the story of the premiere, we do imagine that there will be a reset-of-sorts following the events of the season 1 finale. Things will be tied together, but then also a new story with new challenges will be introduced. The thing to remember with The Orville is that it’s an old-school TV show featuring story-of-the-week plots. It’s a little bit like Doctor Who in that way. You can watch this episode, more than likely, even if you didn’t watch the first season. This is one of those few science fiction TV shows that really does encourage new viewers to come on board. We know that there are a lot of them that aren’t exactly altogether welcoming but we really don’t think that this is the case here.

Below, CarterMatt has the full The Orville season 2 episode 1 synopsis with some more insight all about what lies ahead:

Ed and the crew race to save a small group of survivors on a planet about to be destroyed by its sun. Meanwhile, Bortus and Klyden start marriage counseling when Bortus’ obsession with the ship’s simulation room gets out of hand in the all-new “Primal Urges” Season Two premiere episode of THE ORVILLE airing Sunday, Dec. 30 (8:00-9:02 PM ET/5:00-6:02 PM PT/LIVE to all Time Zones) on FOX. (ORV-112) (TV-14 L)

The humorous story of this episode is going to be seeing what happens with Bortus — but we don’t think that it is necessarily going to be full-on slapstick, either. Because of Seth MacFarlane being involved behind the scenes, we do think that there are still some misnomers out there when it comes to The Orville. We think that there are a lot of people out there who automatically assume that this show is just a silly comedy when in reality, there are a lot of meaningful, poignant, and thought-provoking moments in here. Sure, there is comedy, but we feel like this is a show that really is out to capture the charm and the essence of the original Star Trek series from so many years ago.
