The good news is that this will be changing very soon. McNamara will make her first appearance, per TVLine, in Monday night’s new episode “Unmasked” playing the role of a “scrappy street fighter and thief” by the name of Maya. You can see the first photo of her below, in the middle seemingly of doing some of what she does best. Maya seems to be one of those characters who, on the surface, at least has some things in common with Roy Harper or Sin. She’s coming from the underground of Star City and doesn’t seem to have been gifted all that much in life. She’ll be out to dictate her future through whatever means that she possibly can and however difficult it may be.
From an entertainment standpoint, it’s fundamentally quite clear that there is a lot to like here. While there is an action component to what McNamara does as Clary on Shadowhunters, this is a different sort of role with a very different sense of brutality about it. There are also still some questions, which seems appropriate given that Arrow this season has offered up some different timelines as it explores more of Oliver Queen’s long-term legacy beyond just the prison arc and beyond.
Odds are, following Katherine’s initial appearance on Monday you’ll have to wait until the new year to see more. There are not many indications that the character is going to be featured in the upcoming Elseworlds crossover, which will be starting off a week from Sunday. Beyond that, Monday’s “Unmasked” is the end of the main story of Arrow season 7 for the rest of 2018.
For those who have not heard, you will see McNamara back as Clary when Shadowhunters returns to Freeform in February — despite her character being put in enormous danger at the end of the midseason finale, all signs currently point towards her finding a way to recover. There will still be some major threats that she and the rest of the Institute have to face (including the true form of Jonathan), but given that they’ve been able to tackle a lot of danger so far, why not think that they can do this once more here?
