Supergirl season 4 episode 6 review: Is James Olsen getting too deep?

Supergirl season 4 episode 3

Tonight, Supergirl season 4 episode 6 gave us a story about Thanksgiving. In theory, shouldn’t that be an especially-happy time of year? We like to think so.

Yet, what we saw instead with tonight’s new installment was another reminder that with Agent Liberty running rampant throughout National City, it’s hard for really anyone to sleep easy — especially when it comes to meta-humans. The Children of Liberty are making some steps forward in their plans to eradicate other races, and that included tonight publishing a manifesto and then also using dogs in order to mark homes that are inhabited by islands. They were planning something horrific and were using the holiday as a way in which to stage the attack when nobody was suspecting it.

As the episode went along, it was also clear that there was no way in which to keep the Children from committing their act. Kara tried to appear on a news program alongside Ben Lockwood in order to get another perspective out there. Unfortunately, that didn’t exactly lead to anything other than more fanning the flames. Right before Thanksgiving dinner, the attack on alien homes began and it became an all-hands-on-deck situation to try to make sure that all of the houses were safe and that the situation did not get out of hand. Alas, that did still happen as eventually as a dragon(!) eventually ended up attacking the city.

All of this was complicated, but it was far from the only trouble that we saw throughout tonight’s episode. In the aftermath of the attack, Ben Lockwood was given his own TV show … which isn’t great since this is a way to project his message to a much larger audience as a whole.

Did Lena find a way to empower humanity?

Through some of her experiments, it certainly does seem that way! She has found a way to make a heart invulnerable to fire, and this could just be one small part in a much-larger puzzle where she actually gives humans abilities and uses them as a means to defend themselves.

Obviously, there are about a billion or so different reasons why this plan could go haywire, but this more than likely is something that Lena is going to have to figure out for himself.

The Cliffhanger for the week

James Olsen used some of his Agent Liberty sources to get closer to access to the main villain — meanwhile, back her in lab Lena seems to be contemplating doing something new when it comes to her research. She’s making another move forward and with that, she needs a human subject. Who’s that going to be? That’s your cliffhanger … for now.

CarterMatt Verdict

Overall we’d consider this episode to be a success when it comes to everything that it tried to accomplish. It’s too bad that Kara and the rest of the team haven’t figured out all that much of it herself. She’s still gotta figure out how to pool resources and out-think Agent Liberty given that he continues to find ways in which to get people on his side.
