This will be a chance to see the cast celebrate the holiday, albeit briefly in between some of the chaos that is happening elsewhere. After all, Agent Liberty is still at large and the city is going to continue falling into peril. There’s an ever-clearer divide between people who support his views and those who don’t, and with each passing day it’s not becoming any clearer which side will emerge victorious. You could almost call this an extra-terrestrial echo chamber since nobody wants to listen to any voices other than their own. There’s a refusal to hear other arguments, which does make the idea of a Supergirl vs. Ben Lockwood debate (which will happen in this episode) all the more fascinating.
For some other information, CarterMatt has the Supergirl season 4 episode 6 synopsis for you:
THANKSGIVING – Everyone gathers for Thanksgiving but Kara (Melissa Benoist) is feeling down after her televised debate with Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer) about the anti-alien sentiment coursing through National City. Meanwhile, James (Mehcad Brooks) and Lena (Katie McGrath) argue about the best way to handle the Children of Liberty. Antonio Negret directed the episode written by Gabriel Llanas & Daniel Beaty (#406). Original airdate 11/18/2018.
We’ve said this before, and we certainly do think that it does merit repeating: We are very much worried about Lena this season. She’s already made it clear that she thinks that humanity should have access to technology that levels the playing field opposite aliens and while she’s on the side of Supergirl at the moment, will it remain that way forever? If she doesn’t agree with James about his approach to handling these people, that could set up tension that takes Lena on a rather difficult road in the future. Given that Lex Luthor is appearing at some point later this season, that’s a part of our reason for concern. Why in the world is he appearing and how will this effect Lena?
The biggest struggle for this episode
That much feels clear: Trying to figure out how to be political without also completely drowning viewers in it. This is a show that still needs some lighthearted fun, even in the midst of a lot of darkness and there are some people out there that enjoy jumping into a show like this to take a break from the political climate right now. To date, this may be the darkest season of Supergirl we’ve seen, mostly because the threats this time around are different. Powers alone cannot stop them.
