Gotham season 5: New teases on The Riddler, Barbara’s appearances

Gotham

Gotham season 5 will be premiering on Fox in January, and with that new look apparently also comes one other thing: A new style and attitude for some of the characters.

In a way, all of this makes sense. Characters evolve over time and with that, why shouldn’t some of the villains, as well? They are becoming closer and closer to their comic-book counterparts and there is something exciting about the vision behind that. You get to see how the crew envision their take on these characters during the Batman era; remember that this is not meant to be a linear interpretation of Batman, but rather Batman through their own unique lens and feel. It’s an iteration of the comic books that is new and hopefully interesting and dynamic.

You’ll see some of this evolution throughout the season, but then some of it could blow up even more when we get to the series finale. That episode is going to feature a time jump, and a look ahead to what Bruce Wayne’s life will look like down the road when he actually puts on the cowl. We cannot share too much about specifics in terms of the story, but apparently a couple of different actors are very much excited about the way in which some of these characters are going to be presenting themselves. Take a look at what both Cory Michael Smith (Edward Nygma) and Erin Richards (Barbara Kean) had to say on the subject in a couple of new social-media posts. There is excitement in the air, and that’s something that has been a part of the Gotham experience from the start! One of the biggest reasons why this show has soared to its current level is because you have people who love and appreciate their roles; even Richards, who isn’t exactly playing an iconic comic-book figure, has had the opportunity to basically reinvent Barbara almost every season. Yet another iteration could be coming for season 5.

We know most of the show’s characters will make it to the age of Batman; instead of wondering about that, the question you can instead ask is how much carnage will be caused along the way. Will there really be all that much of Gotham left at the very end of it all? We’re going to find out a much-clearer answer to that starting in January. Brace yourselves.
