Outlander notes! Caitriona Balfe, Diana Gabaldon news; why Jenny isn’t appearing

Outlander

It’s time for some CarterMatt Outlander notes! Isn’t it nice to finally be in-season now, given that there are so many great stories to discuss when it comes to the cast and crew? It’s our favorite time of year when the scoop on this show is bountiful and we have new episodes every week.

Outlander video! – If you haven’t seen our recent video discussing the ratings for the premiere, you can do that below! Also, remember here to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for some other updates — and also take a look at our playlist! We have new Outlander videos every week (episodes reviews and ratings talk) so be sure you don’t miss out.

Let’s kick things off this time around with a link for an interview Caitriona Balfe did on The HFPA in Conversation. This is a chance to get an in-depth, performance based discussion featuring Balfe talking about the series — not only that, but this is some fantastic early Golden Globes campaigning, as well. For those wondering, our 2019 Golden Globes preview series + picks are coming soon. We been doing this for years now and is a bit of a tradition here at the site – be on the look out for that very soon!

We personally wish that there were even more interviews out there with the Outlander cast in podcast form — it’s a chance to really get a raw, unfiltered look at people without copious amounts of editing and/or having to shoehorn someone in to just three or four minutes of air time.

As for some other news of the day…

Massive congrats to Diana Gabaldon! – While the series author may not have taken home first prize in PBS’ Great American Read, she absolutely has something to rejoice in snagging second place. That’s an incredible honor, especially when you consider that the #1 pick was Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird — quite possibly one of the most famous American novels of all time.

What’s all the more fantastic about this placement is that technically, the story of Jamie and Claire in the books (plus many other wonderful characters) is far from over. There’s a chance that the next book in the series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, is out in 2019. Let’s repeat that: There’s a chance. Not confirming anything here, folks.

Gabaldon is far ahead of the show, and the chances that the series would ever catch up to the books are pretty much nil.

Why isn’t Jenny on the show this year? – Let’s close this article by clearing something up, straight from Laura Donnelly herself — she was asked to appear as Jamie’s sister for the upcoming season. Alas, it was unable to happen due to scheduling issues.

Will we get to see her back at some point in the years to come? It’s certainly possible, but this is often what happens when you are not a series regular on a show — you need to get other work and Donnelly has been doing some wonderful things on the stage. You try your best to make things work when a TV gig presents itself but sometimes, things just don’t happen as you’d want. Fingers crossed we get to see Jenny back at some point down the line, as there are some important moments for the character within the books.
