If you look below, some of the fun musical teases (presented by executive producer Peter M. Lenkov) give you a pretty good sense as to what’s coming up. The music within this episode is going to feel a little bit more like a classic noir with the trumpets, the mysterious vibe, and also a fast-paced piece with some jazzy elements. All of this is a sure-fire sign that the producers are really going all-out in order to ensure that this episode feels like it should — as a fantastic homage to some of the great gumshoe mysteries of that era.
Just in case you haven’t heard all that much as of yet about why the show is going back in time, it has to do with a case that is very much tied into some of Steve McGarrett’s grandfather’s past. It also will be a tribute of sorts to legendary Hawaii detective Chang Apana. Many of your favorite cast members are going to be turning up within this episode, albeit in different ways as they take on different characters within the time period. There will also be some additional story within the present, as well, as you are going to have a chance to see Steve and Danny move along towards the grand opening of their restaurant. That’s been a move that is really years in the making and we can’t wait to see how it all turns out. As much as we love seeing Danny and Steve catching the bad guys, we really enjoy them away from work where we can dive into their personal lives a bit more.
