The Walking Dead season 9 episode 5: How Rick Grimes could go

At the moment, there are a wide array of different ways in which we could see this character leaving. Take, for example, the rebar that he got hit with in the torso. He’s now wandering, on the edge of his life, and has the responsibility of figuring out a solution to some massive walker hordes. This is the sort of situation that Rick has faced before, where the odds are against him and he has to count on some of the skills that he’s learned over the course of his life to carry the day.
Yet, he somehow has figured out a way in which to survive before, and if we didn’t know that Andrew Lincoln is leaving, we’d probably feel that way again. Yet, at the same time we do know that this is a bind he won’t get out of.
While it’s not entirely clear just how Rick is going to die — if he even does die — we just hope that it doesn’t happen in a way that ends with the character becoming a walker. After everything that we have seen the man go through over time, this just feels like far too horrible a way for him to go. It’s traumatic in its own way with this show to see a guy who we’ve come to know in one context end up being twisted and turned into zombie form. We want him to have a proper and powerful heroes’ death; we do think that some of the returning cast members will guide him into his farewell and show him a little bit more of the way. They are going to offer up a better chance to say goodbye by confronting his past and all that has happened.
