Madam Secretary season 5 episode 6 spoilers: Elizabeth’s airport mission

Madam Secretary season 5 episode 6 is going to be a reminder that diplomacy never takes a break. It also may just happen to be the one episode of this show that is focused almost entirely within an airport, and has the hardest episode title to pronounce in recent memory: “Eyjafjallajökull.” It feels almost like the writers were going for that. (For those wondering, that is the name of an Icelandic volcano, one of the more famous ones in the world even if nobody outside of that country can actually say its name — there are some videos out there about pronunciation, if you do want to look those up.)

“Eyjafjallajökull” – When the eruption of an Icelandic volcano strands Elizabeth at an airport in Ireland with the Turkish foreign minister, she tries to broker a deal with him to save the lives of thousands of Syrian refugees. Also, Henry gives advice to Alison about an awkward topic, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Nov. 11 (10:30-11:30 PM, ET/10:00-11:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.

This episode may end up being one of our favorites of the entire series, just because of where it’s starting off and potentially, where it could also end. This is an opportunity to see some of these characters actually try to figure out a way to make a deal in one of the most unlikely of places, and there’s something that is rather fun and impromptu about that. It may cause everyone to have their guard and insecurities down — with that in mind, they may be a little more receptive to some other ideas than they would be otherwise in their typical environment.

Given that we consider Madam Secretary to be a particularly hopeful show, this could be a story that offers some of that.
