Is Megyn Kelly leaving The Today Show amidst controversy?

Megyn Kelly Today

Is Megyn Kelly leaving The Today Showand her specified one-hour block of it, over some controversial blackface comments?

At the moment, it’s starting to feel increasingly unlikely that she will ever be back. Kelly was not present for her hour of the morning show on Thursday, and instead, a repeat aired in her place. Meanwhile, a new report from CNN notes that there is also a repeat set for tomorrow — but that is typical for the series on Friday. Whether or not this episode was pre-taped before the controversy / is “new” because of that remains to be seen.

Beyond just that, there is speculation out there suggesting that she may never return to Today, or the news division of NBC again. It seems as though some legal discussions are coming in terms of her future there, and there is another question that comes along with all of this: How much of a benefit would it be for any party in the event that Kelly does come back? Her history at Fox News made her a firebrand for many people before she even started her morning-show gig at the network and beyond that, we haven’t heard all that much when it comes to enthusiasm around her having the gig.

Kelly has apologized already for her original comments, where she suggested that it was okay for people to darken their faces with makeup for a costume provided that they are playing a real character. NBC, meanwhile, has also condemned her for her her remarks on a number of their other programming — a rare move by a network against one of their own personalities. This is the the sort of situation that everyone gets to walk back from given that it can stick with you for many years … and it certainly doesn’t seem like anyone’s forgetting back this right now. It’s not a free-speech situation; Kelly works for an organization that can choose to hand down whatever punishment they choose, and she then has a chance to challenge that legally.

Do you think that Megyn Kelly should be removed from Today permanently over her remarks? Be sure to share right now in the attached comments. (Photo: NBC.)
