NCIS: New Orleans season 5 episode 5 review: Is Pride going to die soon?
What we learned tonight about Jimmy was rather clear: He is Pride’s half-brother, and Dwayne just learned out about him for the first time tonight. It makes sense that Cassius would keep this sort of secret from his son for so long, but it’s fair to say that the circumstances in which they met were far from ideal. That’s what happens when there’s a gun pointed at you. Jimmy found himself stuck in a tough situation, mostly due to his father. Because of that, Pride had to find a way to both help him and also figure out if there was a way to remove his father from this mess … if possible.

What we effectively saw tonight was an episode about questionable alignments and a number of other surprises — with the biggest one being whether or not Pride could trust his new brother. Given that Cassius has his own history, it’s pretty clear that he could have passed that along to Jimmy. Luckily, that didn’t happen and Jimmy seems to be at least slightly closer to Pride than he was his father.
At the end of the episode, Cassius somehow didn’t find himself arrested (though it does feel like he could be shipped off somewhere with a new name) and, to go along with that, Pride had a chance to get to know his brother a little bit more. They were together at the bar while Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats performed at the end of the episode … at least before Pride was revisited by his “spiritual clock,” who seemed to remind him once more that his time is ticking and there may only be so long that he has. We don’t love this whole story suggesting that Pride could be dying at some point in the future … we just don’t know when.
CarterMatt Verdict
It’s going to take a little bit of time to get used to Pride having a brother in this world that he never knew about previously, but we do love the creative risk of putting this character into play in the 100th episode. Given that we only see Laurel so often and Cassius can never be trusted, it’s nice for him to have that other connection — especially one that is within the land of the living.
As much fun as this 100th episode was, we cannot help but worry over the future of the Pride character after what we saw both at the end tonight and also the premiere.
