SEAL Team season 2 episode 3 video: Jason learns about Alana’s fate
In the video below, you can get a small sense of what we’re talking about as the story flashes back to immediately following an accident featuring the character. Jason is desperately searching in the hospital for Alana, and you can see him running at one point towards the OR where she is in surgery. The way that this sequence is filmed really plays into the character’s state of panic; it feels real, and not overly orchestrated for drama or perfection. It puts you into Jason’s head for as much as humanly possible.

By the time the surgeon comes out of the hospital and takes off his cap, you know immediately know what’s going to be coming next. This doesn’t feel like anything other than bad news, especially when other previews out there already show Jason at a funeral.
Losing Alana as a part of the story at this point makes a good bit of sense, mostly because Michaela McManus has a new series elsewhere and SEAL Team isn’t going to be able to use her with any regularity moving forward. Killing off the character is basically the way that the writers can keep the legacy of the character the same without seeing her on the show anymore. It’s hard to write her out any other way, especially since this introduces a whole new series of story challenges for Jason. He will need to figure out how he can be a good father to his kids with the job that he has … or if he can even continue to do this job at all. Alana, even when she was not with him romantically, was still the valuable support system. She enabled him to do some of what he did, and with that gone, the entire situation is complicated greatly. It could take some time for Jason to sort it out again, so much longer than the events of this one episode.
