Chicago PD season 6 episode 3 review: Was Olinsky exonerated?
Basically, the victim in the kidnapping in the Gilchrest was not exactly that; Voight was able to actually bring her in and charge her with obstruction. Here’s the problem, though — the victim’s father was actually a wealthy, prominent member of Chicago society, and because of that, Brennan (Anne Heche) wasn’t actually all that interested in keeping the two of them locked up.
This episode represented just how much Brennan’s influence can compromise the police, Voight’s integrity, and in turn, his own reputation. He was forced to effectively do something tonight that he didn’t want to do. Because of that, the victim got to have her own narrative shared by her father.
Yet, at least Voight did manage to get something out of this situation: In return for everything that he did tonight, Brennan agreed to allow Olinsky to be exonerated. He was able to preserve Al’s legacy. Yet, the was in which it happened was something that he cannot be all that proud about. He has to deal with the fact that he had to cross some lines to get him restored as the great cop that he was … and it is really crossing lines and getting dirty that kicked off the chain of events with Woods in the first place.
Is Upton / Ruzek a thing?
For now, it appears to be that way. The two characters slept together at the start of the episode and, by the end of it, they hooked up again. It’s not clear just yet if this is something serious, but it is at least something notable and with that, something that we should pay attention to. Personality-wise, it does make sense, but we’re still trying to figure out if we like it.
CarterMatt Verdict
Overall, Chicago PD season 6 episode 3 delivered what was a pretty strong episode from start to finish with a big twist. The romance part of it may be polarizing, but it is nice to see Olinsky get exonerated and his legacy restored.
