The Big Bang Theory season 12 episode 5: Another Bob Newhart appearance

The Big Bang Theory season 11 episode 2

The Big Bang Theory season 12 episode 5 is set to be airing on CBS come Thursday, October 18 and based on some early details, this one is going to be fun.

For starters, this episode marks yet another appearance from Bob Newhart as Professor Proton / Arthur Jeffries, and it could end up being the final appearance for him on the sitcom. We know that the character has been technically dead for a while now, but he has been able to stick around mostly as a spiritual guide who appears for him in a wide array of different forms. On this episode, he could appear in the midst of a relationship conflict between Sheldon and Amy, one that causes the two of them to be in a tough place — mostly because of Sheldon’s own doing. It’s nice that he wants to work with her, but definitively not-so-nice that he may be setting out to damage some of her own career in the process.

Below, the Big Bang Theory season 12 episode 5 synopsis offers up some additional information when it comes to what you can expect to see next in this episode:

“The Planetarium Collision” – When Amy doesn’t have time to work on super-asymmetry, Sheldon goes to great lengths to ensure she’s available to work with him even it if means accidentally sabotaging her career in the process. Also, Koothrappali doesn’t want Wolowitz to join him in hosting a show at the planetarium, on THE BIG BANG THEORY, Thursday, Oct. 18 (8:00-8:31 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Emmy Award winner Bob Newhart returns as Arthur Jeffries.

The Raj / Howard conflict could be fun, mostly just because it makes sense why Howard would want to be there. After all, the guy’s been an astronaut! He understands space in a way few others do. Yet, simultaneously the planetarium gig is kind of Raj’s thing, and if Howard takes a larger ownership of it, it could prove harder for him to get some of that feeling of Pride back.
