Last Man Standing season 7 premiere: Where is Molly Ephraim’s Mandy?
The news surrounding the exit of Ephraim’s Mandy came about earlier this summer, following the news that Fox had revived the series after it spent six seasons over at ABC. Because the show was off the air for over a year, the cast had to get some other gigs during that time. With that, Ephraim has landed some other work, and with that, it was hard for her to continue on this show. (It’s also been hard for another original series regular in Kaitlyn Dever, but she will be returning in recurring fashion.)

Following Ephraim’s exit, the series sought out a new actor to play the part of Mandy, and eventually that led to Molly McCook being cast in the role. She brings a slightly different energy to the part, but also is very much the same Mandy with the same backstory. Fox and the show’s producers deliberately tried to emphasize bringing someone on board who was talented, rather than someone who looked identical to Ephraim. That’s why there are new jokes written into Last Man Standing about the character being significantly taller and also now being blonde after being brunette for most of the series’ run.
Ultimately, we do think that Last Man Standing is going to be just fine, mostly because McCook does a good job with her performance and beyond that, this isn’t the first time that this series has recast a main role. Alexandra Krosney was the original Kristin on the series, but eventually was recast with Amanda Fuller going into season 2. She’s done a good job with it ever since and helped the show have some consistency.
