Saturday Night Live season 44: Awkwafina, Seth Meyers booked to host

Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live has officially set up the hosts for the next two episodes of season 44, and they are a pair of unsurprising names.

Let’s kick things off here with Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina, who is coming on board the comedy series on October 6 after a breakout role this summer. This is a gig that should be exciting, mostly because the series is bringing on board someone with a ton of energy and who should be a breath of fresh air on the Studio 8H stage. She has appeared in some other projects including Future Man and Ocean’s Eight, and we imagine that many more projects will come her way in the future.

Given how SNL has severely under-represented Asian actors during their run, we certainly hope that this is the beginning of a trend of diversity for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, the October 13 edition of the series is going to be hosted by Seth Meyers, who shockingly is hosting for the first time. The former head writer and Weekend Update host has appeared periodically since first departing the show, and we feel like one of the reasons why we haven’t seen him more is because he never really did too many of the normal sketches on the show in the first place. That’s in part what makes this exciting: Seth is going to get a chance to play some other characters who aren’t just his Weekend Update host / love of Stefon. If Bill Hader stops by for an appearance, our heart will melt for probably the remainder of the most.

Remember that the premiere episode is airing on SNL this weekend, and it will be hosted by Adam Driver with a performance from Kanye West. If you head over to the link here, you can see a promo featuring Driver front and center.
