NCIS: New Orleans season 5 premiere review: Did Pride survive? Gibbs’ cameo
Throughout this episode, Pride basically ventured to his own version of the afterlife, one that was disconnected from the world and one that contained a ghost from his past. Unfortunately, this all happened, Amelia (the assassin who tried to take out Pride in the first place) was also still around. The team did everything that they possibly could in order to stop her dead in her tracks, while at the same time she tried to finish the job with Pride within the hospital.

Amelia is a scary opponent — she’s smart, she’s able to adapt, and because of what happened to her husband in the past, she wanted revenge. That was a recipe for disaster for some members of the team. She eventually infiltrated the hospital where Pride was being treated, and this was effectively the culmination of the entire episode. There was a shootout right outside of Pride’s bed and it feels like even more of a miracle that he somehow managed to survive all of this … though he was technically dead for a few minutes beforehand. It was really Laurel showing up that seemed to be the impetus for him finding a way to make it through.
As for whether or not Amelia did, it was very easy for LaSalle to shoot her. Yet, he decided not to do that. Instead, she was brought in and hopefully, this means that she will be arrested for a rather long time.
CarterMatt Verdict
Seeing the NCIS: New Orleans take on Heaven / purgatory / whatever you want to call it proved to be really interesting — this episode was all about Pride having to figure out if he was going to keep fighting, and that is what he chose. It was the right choice, mostly because it was clear at the same time that there were so many other people who were willing to fight for him, as well.
We know that this show can be a powerful and emotional one, but even still this ended up being even more powerful than we imagined. even though we knew that Dwayne would probably survive, seeing how it happened was a welcome and worthwhile affair. Also, it was nice to get a cameo from Mark Harmon at the same time; Gibbs was responsible in part for Amelia even getting there.
