Outlander actor Richard Rankin joins Trust Me season 2 alongside Alfred Enoch
Per a statement from the network, Rankin (whose credits also include The Crimson Field and The Last Kingdom) is going to be stopping by the Dan Sefton-created series as a neurologist named Dr. Alex Kiernan who, “on the surface, is a fun and dedicated doctor but hides his steely ambition and we sense an implicit undercurrent of threat beneath his professional exterior.” This is an exciting role for Rankin, especially since his current Outlander role of Roger is so earnest. It’s a chance for him to shake things up as an actor and do something different during his off months away from the series. This part should be wrapped prior to him starting season 5 of the Starz series, so he should be able to do both parts without a problem.

In a statement, Rankin had the following to say about the gig:
“As part of a richly drawn and intriguing ensemble of new characters, it’s going to be a lot of fun bringing Alex to life.”
Trust Me is undergoing a pretty dramatic overhaul entering the second season, as original series star Jodie Whittaker is not returning — understandably so, given that she is the new star of Doctor Who. Former How to Get Away with Murder star Alfred Enoch has been set as the new lead, and will be playing Corporal Jamie McCain, “a survivor of a shock enemy attack. Recovering from a spinal injury which has left him temporarily paralysed, Jamie faces a new enemy as fellow patients on the ward die unexpectedly around him.”
Here is what Enoch had to say about joining the show:
“It’s great to be on board, it’s a cracking cast and Dan has done a great job crafting something that’s really invested in the characters. It has a psychological concern that is dark and thrilling. I can’t wait to get started.”
We love the idea of a medical thriller-of-sorts (not a subgenre we see all that often), and of course we love all things Richard Rankin. With this in mind, Trust Me season 2 feels already like a winner.
John Hannah (Four Weddings and a Funeral) and Ashley Jensen (Extras) are also set to join the cast, which also includes Katie Clarkson Hill, Jamie Michie, Chloe Harris, Amiera Darwish and Saskia Ashdown.
