Why Shooter season 4 isn’t happening on USA — or anywhere else, at present
So what’s going on here? Why isn’t this show, with all of its action and drama, able to find a new home for itself after its cancellation? Well, it’s not all too hard to figure out why when you look at the ratings. Season 3 was down more than 40% in the numbers from season 2, which largely signals that in the event it was brought back for a season 4, the numbers would be down big again. At that point, it’s hard to imagine that the Ryan Phillippe series would be all that profitable anymore.

Are there some potential reasons why the ratings are what they are? You can certainly say that the network could’ve promoted it stronger via other channels and outlets, or that you can also argue that maybe it had a few too many creative bumps in the road. The biggest conclusion that we can offer here is just that this is the sort of show that is very difficult to execute in this current climate, one that is especially sensitive over mass shootings and other gun related tragedies. While this show isn’t glorifying violence by any means, guns are at a center of it far more so than many other series that are out there. It’s hard to really market that in 2018.
We do know at one point that there was some consideration via the Paramount Network in picking up Shooter, but it does not appear as though anything has come from that. With this, we’re anticipating the season 3 finale tonight to be the series finale and the last bow for the show. Some cast members already seem to be moving on and that’s another sign.
