The Simpsons season 30 premiere: Gal Gadot, Emily Deschanel to guest star

The Simpsons season 30 is premiering on Sunday, September 30 (fitting), and we don’t think we have to say just how big of a deal this is. Thirty seasons is a close-to-impossible number for any series to achieve, animated or not. It’s incredible that this show has managed to make it this far, just as it remains equally incredible that it doesn’t appear as though it is going anywhere in the near future, either. This show is still going strong, and the premiere is going to feature many big guest stars as proof. Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot will be lending her voice to the show, and the same goes for Bones alum Emily Deschanel and Crashing star Pete Holmes. (Side note: We really miss getting to see Emily Deschanel on TV every week so if Fox wanted to bring it back we would be thrilled.)

The title for this episode is “Bart’s Not Dead,” which seems like a clear reference to the series of “God’s Not Dead” religious movies that have hit theaters over the past few years.

Below, The Simpsons season 30 premiere synopsis offers up a little bit more news:

Bart takes a dare, and ends up in the hospital. To cover for himself and Homer, he says he went to Heaven and met Jesus. Christian producers offer the Simpsons a movie deal, which Homer takes. But Bart can’t deal with the guilt and comes clean to Marge after the movie is finished in the all-new “Bart’s Not Dead” Season 30 premiere episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, Sept. 30 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (SI-2919) (TV-PG L, V)

It’s fairly hard for The Simpsons to really come up with new ideas at this point in their run, but doing a play on the Christian movie industry seems to be like a good start. This is, after all, a market that doesn’t get a lot of mainstream attention but is fairly lucrative … and we’re certainly curious how the show will dive into this while also catering to some of their religious viewers.
