The Purge episode 2 preview: Can USA keep adaptation going?
After all, what the network is trying to do here is take one of the most successful horror franchises of the past several years and turn it into a TV show … and that is no easy feet. Everyone already has their own preconceived notions as to what The Purge is and, because of that, this series has to fend off those expectations.
Also, we do feel like one of the biggest challenges with a show like this is figuring out a way to sustain it, mostly because of the fact that that horror is the sort of thing that often works because you can get an individual, isolating experience. This is probably one of the reasons why USA is billing this as a limited series; if you present this as the idea of a show with a defined beginning, middle, and end, it’s probably easier to get more committed viewers as a result of it. (Of course, we do still think that if viewership for The Purge is super-high, the odds are also pretty far up there that there will be a second season — even if this is an anthology similar to what we saw with The Sinner.)
We’re already expecting that The Purge is going to keep most of its cards close to the vest as to what’s coming week to week, mostly because this is a show reliant on craziness and we don’t think that they are going to drift too far from that.
Below, the Purge episode 2 synopsis offers up what little information that we can offer as to what’s ahead:
Jane considers the morality of Purge. Miguel searches for Pete the Cop.
