On the death of Teresi, and its impact on Tommy – “For [this episode], we really wanted to tell a Tommy story … Street rules? Snitches, they gotta go. I think you see Tommy become a man in this episode. This is the act that defines him; unfortunately, it also causes him to break his own heart. In killing his father, there is a part of him that becomes a boy again.”
On Dre losing a lot of his power – “Dre f—ed up pretty bad, and that’s why there’s a head in the refrigerator at his club. What do you think is going to happen to you, son? You needed a better plan than this. Nobody has Dre’s back! why should they? He’s made every possible mistake. I like it that Dre kinda gets his.”
On the state of things with Ghost and Tariq – “Getting played is really rough — when someone you trust stabs you in the back, it takes a long time to get over that. That’s where we are here. Tariq changed. When Tariq says ‘I’m the one who lost here; you all won,’ that is actually the core of the transformation. Then, we see this in the subsequent scene with him and Ghost in the train station.”
The story with Ghost and Tariq to us is going to be the one that understandably gets slow-played, given that it’s going to take a while before we see Tariq becomes a power-played like what Ghost was … especially since Ghost doesn’t seem to be all that interested in ushering his son into this life. It’s something that he long hoped that he would avoid.
