Trial & Error season 3 renewal: Is there still hope after finale?
Let’s start with what we know for sure. As previously reported, NBC opted to allow some of the cast contracts to expire — while this is not an official cancellation by any means, it’s not looking good and there are already reports suggesting that it could be shopped elsewhere. This does make sense, given that this is the sort of show that could effectively air on other outlets without all that much of a problem — especially if they are streaming services. This feels like the perfect sort of binge-watching show given that it has a format similar to an anthology, at least in that every season features a different case and a different star at the center of it — even if many of the supporting characters are the same.
Also, if you get a big enough star, it’s easy to think that a season 3 could be very successful. So far, Trial & Error has had both Kristin Chenoweth and John Lithgow, and mostly has just been a victim of a tough timeslot and not a whole lot of promotion. It’s still a funny, creative show that has really just scratched the surface of what it can be. It does deserve another kick at the can, but we’ll have to wait and see if it gets it.
Hopefully, we’ll get some more news when it comes to a season 3 before long … if there is more news to report. The biggest thing working against it is that the season 2 ratings are down considerably (at least in terms of live viewing) from season 1 — but what did you really expect given its shift to summer and a relative lack of promotion, including in the form of a lead-in? Sometimes, you have to just make a gamble based on quality, and this is what we hope someone else does.

Please please please re-new Trial and Error it is so darn funny. With a little promotion could have such a huge audience. Every episode is just so hilarious. I love it so much

This show is my family’s favorite. It’s creative, extremely well written and the acting is hilariously superb. Sure hope someone sees what a gem this is and gives it a season 3 and more.

Yes! We need another season!!! I’d been telling my mom how it was hilariously “laugh out loud” in its ridiculousness. She finally checked it out and fell in love with it ON ITS LAST NIGHT. Somebody, please!!! Streaming would be perfect :)
