Law & Order: SVU season 20 has just brought on board its latest guest star, and she definitely has some experience on great shows already.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sandrine Holt (MacGyver, Homeland) is going to be recurring across the upcoming season in the role of Lisa Abernathy, a clinical psychologist who obviously is very talented in her skill. You don’t get to where you consult on cases for the Manhattan D.A.’s office otherwise. You will also learn a little bit about Lisa’s personal life, as she and her wife have two children.

The obvious assumption with this character is that she is going to be appearing in scenes alongside Peter Stone, given that she is probably going to be the sort of person who can really help him in some cases. She could be able to take on some cases where he needs to better understand the criminal mind. One of the things that we also like about this character is that there’s a reasonably good chance she could appear for many years to come, given that the SVU and Stone are always going to need characters like her around.

New episodes of SVU are going to be airing this fall; Holt is the latest performer to book a recurring role alongside Scandal actor George Newbern and then also Dylan Walsh. One of the great things about seeing some of these recurring guest stars brought on board is that it basically helps to ensure further that we are going to be getting opportunities to see stories that last beyond a typical week. There are often some serialized elements with this show to go alongside the case of the week, but we like a healthy mix as much as is humanly possible.

SVU premieres on NBC come Thursday, September 27 on NBC.
