Scream season 3 will premiere on MTV this year; Mary J. Blige on board
Regardless of the reasoning, it does appear as though we are going to get the third season later this year, and that MTV is sticking with its original conceit of airing the six episodes over the course of just three nights in two-hour blocks. This was noted today by The Hollywood Reporter, who also notes that the legendary Mary J. Blige is going to be on board in the role of Sherry Elliot, the mother of RJ Cyler’s character of Deion Elliot. This is a great casting coup for Scream thanks in part to some of the work that Blige did on Mudbound; the series is lucky to have her and many other great performers in the season 3 cast, including Keke Palmer and Tyler Posey.
While we’re frustrated about the long wait to check out season 3, there is one thing that we remain fairly excited about: The prospect of getting to see these episodes become a television event potentially around Halloween. If they can perform well in the ratings, it’s certainly possible that there could be a Scream season 4 coming down the line. At this point, we care more about the series’ renewal prospects than we do getting to see it over the next few weeks.
