Gotham season 5 spoilers: Expect a different, faster pace
Take, for example, the pace of the story to come. We may only have ten more episodes to watch the remainder of this story told and there’s a lot to get to — include Bruce Wayne’s journey into Batman. We don’t exactly think that he will be wandering around in his traditional costume by the end of the series, but we certainly would not be shocked if word “Batman” comes out of his mouth at the very end (we know DC has been hesitant to allow the word to be used on the show, but we feel like an exception will be made for the finale).
Speaking a little bit more on the subject of the series’ pacing moving forward now, David Mazouz said the following to Entertainment Weekly:
“Last season ended with the government showing its back to Gotham. It’s a dark island, little electricity, food, ammo, all that kind of stuff — this kind of situation brings out kind of the [characteristics] of all the characters that we know and it’s going to be very character-driven this year, and the characters are finally gonna become who we know them as … It’s really fast-paced, it’s really real, it feels really dark and — I don’t want to give away too much, but it’s really good. It’s a really good season.”
Based on the end of this past season, it’s not all that difficult to understand why Gotham is in a state of disarray, and why certain villains may be able to rise from the ashes and cause chaos all around them. It’s going to be rather difficult to see characters battle through some of this and stay alive in the process. Yet, we do think that there is a certain element of hope to Gotham — Batman is not the most pleasant character in the world, but we do think that he is, to quote some other literature on the character, the hero Gotham needs.
The final season of Gotham is, regrettably, not going to premiere until 2019. We’ll let you know if that changes.
