Code Black season 4: Rob Lowe says to exercise caution with revival

Code Black season 3 episode 13

While we’ve heard that CBS could be considering a Code Black season 4 in the future, it’s pretty clear that everything is far from assured.

Following the network saying earlier in the week at TCA that they were considering a revival for the canceled series, star Rob Lowe posted on Twitter that, at least for now, this news should be “taken with a mount of salt.” This post was from a couple of days ago and it’s possible that there have been more talks since then, but it is interesting to note that at the time of TCA, there were no active discussions with the network and show executive producer Michael Seitzman.

One part of Lowe’s statement that we especially agree with is that Code Black was, during its third season, both well-rated and respected by critics and fans alike. As we explain in the video below (subscribe to YouTube for more like it), this was a series that was routinely winning Wednesday night in total viewers, even over shows that were getting substantially more promotion. We do think that CBS just assumed that the ratings were going to tank out in the summer at the time in which it was canceled, but that didn’t happen and now, they are left in a position where they may have some regrets.

We do think that a season 4 revival is possible, but like all other renewals this late after a cancellation, it’s unlikely. It’s going to take a lot of work and logistics to make something happen — we do think that many cast members would be eager to go back, and the same goes for some of the writers and producers behind the scenes. While there are many medical dramas that are great, there was just something special about Code Black in between the music, the writing, the performances, and the overall heart and spirit. It’s worthy of another run, but whether or not it happens remains to be seen.
