NCIS: New Orleans executive producer Brad Kern suspended

NCIS: New Orleans season 4 premiere

There were a number of discussion points from CBS’ executive session at the TCA Summer Press tour earlier today. The status of embattled NCIS: New Orleans executive producer Brad Kern was just one of them.

Late last year, a story first surfaced in Variety discussing the various allegations that were out there against Kern, who for decades allegedly created difficult, hostile work environments on Charmed and many other shows. CBS at the time had confirmed that Kern had already been investigated twice for past incidents and while they could not corroborate all accounts, they claimed that they took action and there were no formal complaints at that time.

This morning, however, CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl confirmed that there was a third investigation open into Kern’s behavior, and he has been suspended so that the investigation can be completed. Here is more of what Kahl had to say via TVLine:

“I believe in terms of keeping him out of the workplace during the investigation, that was to be as fair and open as we could be … The investigation is ongoing. I’m told we will have results soon.”

Kern has already been removed from his post as showrunner on the series, and we certainly do have to wonder at this point if the best thing for the series would be finding a way to move forward and separate itself from him. The allegations against Kern have been serious, and to go along with that this story is a dark cloud that is hovering over the series and taking away from everything else that is going on with it. We feel for the alleged victims, and it may also be hard for the cast and crew to continue moving forward with their jobs while dealing with questions about a situation that they don’t have anything to do with. For the sake of the show and everything involved, it may be best to turn the page and move forward.
