Is Poldark new tonight on BBC? The path to season 5, the future
At the end of season 4, we saw Elizabeth die under some of the most terrible of circumstances. She was desperate in order to prove to George that Valentine was his son (even if she didn’t necessarily know that), and the great lengths that she went to make it happen ended up leading to her passing. This was devastating. While Elizabeth may not have been the most likable character in the history of British television, she did still leave a valuable mark on the story as Ross’ first love — she was not his great love, but influenced so many of his decisions over the years.
Yet, the show must go on, and go on it will moving into the fifth season. Unfortunately, that’s not tonight, and it will not air until at some point in 2019. There is no firm premiere date just yet, but we imagine that the show is going to utilize the same structure that we’ve seen over the past few years. We imagine that filming is going to kick off later this fall (scripts have already been written), and with that, the season will be wrapped at some point in the winter.
At the moment, season 5 is going to be the final one for the series — if there is a season 6, we don’t think that it’s going to happen anytime soon. With the way that the book series jumps forward in time, it’s hard to imagine Aidan Turner and the rest of the cast being in a position where they’re willing to put on makeup constantly to make them appear significantly older than they are really are.
As of right now, we’re preparing for season 5 to be an end … and we imagine that it is going to be an especially emotional one. When you’ve grown so accustomed to these characters over time, and it’s hard to imagine the television landscape without them.
