Doctor Who season 11 World Cup promo: Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill

The BBC has just unveiled a new Doctor Who season 11 promo, and at the center of this one are presumably the new Companions for Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor. Who are they? You’ve got Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill. The network is still being somewhat cagey as to what their roles in the story are going to be; heck, we’re not sure if anything in this promo (which debuted during the World Cup Final) is even canon to what’s going on with the show.

The entire premise of this promo is fairly simple: The Thirteen Doctor visits Walsh, Cole, and Gill while they are in the midst of some everyday activities — and, in the process, seems to offer them a few gifts. (Personally, we’re a fan of the one that fills up your pizza box when it is empty.) The Doctor appears at the very end of the preview, and it’s still pretty clear that the BBC is trying to hide her voice for as long as possible. To date, the only word that we’ve actually heard The Doctor say is “brilliant,” her first line after the regeneration in the Christmas Special at the end of last season.

It’s possible that there could be a few more teasers released here and there over the next few days, but the most obvious venue for some sort of enormous Doctor Who reveal now is San Diego Comic-Con, where all signs point towards there being some sort of big reveal. We still think that the folks in the UK deserve the right to see a full trailer before the US counterparts (and we say this as an American viewer of the show), but we don’t really have any control as to what’s going on there. More than anything else, we just want there to be a fun season with great action and plenty of surprises.
