Suits season 8: Should Abigail Spencer return as Scottie?

As we await the premiere of Suits season 8 on July 18, we start to think more in terms of some of the characters from the first seven seasons we’d love to see again. One of the great things about this show, as a whole, is that it’s going a wonderful roster of performers from top to bottom, whether you are talking about someone like a Sheila or a Daniel Hardman or a Sean Cahill. Some people are heroes, others are villains, but really when you strip them of some of the superficial labels they’re really all just people who are desperate to get what they want out of the world. Dana Scott, otherwise known as Scottie, is one of these such people.

What we love about getting Scottie on the show is that she’s one of the more formidable characters both in terms of her skill and her relationship with Harvey. She can test him in ways few others can just because of everything that they’ve went through. She also knows him and can anticipate many of his moves.

When it comes to the idea of a romantic relationship between the two, it feels like that is very much a thing of the past and should remain that way. Suits should be about trying to push these characters forward and as of right now, Harvey seems to be going down a road that leads to a relationship with Donna. That could prove to be false, but it feels like there is material to be explored here.

There are plenty of reasons to bring back Scottie that are separate from the idea of romance altogether. For starters, it’s Suits continuing to establish that its world hasn’t changed all that much despite losing Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle. Beyond that, don’t you want to continue to feature Abigail Spencer as much as humanly possible? Even if there was a Timeless season 3 renewal (the cancellation still bums us out tremendously), we’d still advocate to get at least a couple of episodes from her. She was able to do an episode last season even with Grey’s Anatomy and Timeless on her schedule, so we’d love for there to be more story for her this time around, as well.

Ultimately, it’s still too early to tell as to whether or not she will appear, largely because Suits still is far from done filming its eighth season. We’ll keep our eyes peeled if more news comes out over the coming months.
