Blue Bloods season 9: Should we get a big Abigail Baker episode?

Blue Bloods season 9

In many of our recent Blue Bloods articles, we have written specific pieces celebrating some of the show’s unsung heroes. We’ve also gotten a good sense that one of the most-popular supporting characters who doesn’t get enough love is none other than Abigail Baker.

What do we know about this character? Well, she works alongside Frank at the Commissioner’s Office and does everything in her power to make sure that the entire ship runs smoothly. That’s not always a particularly easy thing to do, largely because of the fact that there is always some chaos going on with some sort of dilemma in need of resolution. Baker keeps her nose to the grindstone, working hard to ensure that every problem is solved no matter the trouble that it puts some of the characters in around her. She’s someone we know a lot about in the context of her job, including her debate last season as to whether or not there was something more out there for her. After a debate over her future, eventually she opted to stay with Frank and everyone else in the Commissioner’s Office.

So what would the benefit be to getting a big Abigail Baker episode next season? For starters, it’s a chance to give Abigail Hawk some outstanding material — she was amazing on Law & Order: SVU this past season and with that, we know that she can do even more than what we’ve seen for her here. While we don’t necessarily need to see Baker in grave danger, it would be interesting to see the Commissioner’s Office take on a subject that is personal to her — which, in turn, leads to some tension between her and Frank.

Beyond that, it would be fun to dive into some of Baker’s personal life, whether it be more in terms of her relationship and her family. It’s rather interesting in that we’ve seen her for so long, and yet we know so little about her. An Abigail Baker episode would give us a chance to see more of this world through her eyes, and allow a show that often is fairly structured to get a little more creative.
