SWAT season 2: Patrick St. Esprit promoted to series regular

There isn’t a whole lot of news out there regarding SWAT season 2 — after all, filming hasn’t even started yet — but this could still make some people out there rather happy.

According to a new report via Deadline, Patrick St. Esprit, who recurred during the first season of the show as Commander Robert Hicks, is going to be a regular moving into season 2. He works alongside the Special Operations Bureau and when you think about his amount of screen time during the first season, you probably thought that he was a regular already. He was a part of 16 episodes during the first season and there probably won’t be too much of a difference for him in season 2 other than a few more appearances.

Promotions for a second season of a network show are fairly common, mostly in that the first season is in some ways a trial run for everything. It serves as a rather-great opportunity to start to see some things that work and a few things that could use even more fine-tuning, and also, it gives you a chance to see which recurring characters viewers really like. Commander Hicks is a valuable character within the SWAT world given that he serves as a go-between and a powerful force within the LAPD. He’s the sort of person who is essential in showing off various parts of police leadership.

Beyond this promotion, we don’t really expect too much that is different when it comes to SWAT season 2 — more than likely, it’s going to give you a lot of the same high-octane drama that we saw from the first go-around and also some great character-building for Shemar Moore and the rest of the cast.
