Outlander season 4: Behind-the-scenes Richard Rankin photo!
The photo below comes courtesy of the series’ official Twitter account, and it features none other than Richard Rankin behind-the-scenes with Matthew B. Roberts. What’s going on here? Maybe they’re laughing at a Twitter exchange between Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. Ultimately, it’s pretty fantastic that Rankin’s got cell reception back before cell phones were invented!
In all seriousness, judging from the background (is that a hot-dog vendor?) we have a feeling that this behind-the-scenes photo was taken via a noted festival scene that was set up in a Scottish park earlier this year. There were various photos posted on the internet by fans of some of the decorations, but nobody was really able to get up close and personal to what was going on. These scenes should give you a chance to get to know more about Roger Wakefield in the midst of what is likely the most important season for the character to date. He and Brianna both are getting set to embark on an epic journey that will cause them to experience a good many highs and lows — it will also (book spoiler alert) bring them far into the past.
Ultimately, we like to think of this photo as just yet another reminder that Outlander is a warm, welcoming, and fun set, even if there are some serious things that have to be done there day in and day out. It certainly helps that you’ve got a guy like Rankin in the cast who has a tremendous sense of humor and doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Outlander season 4 premieres in November, so there’s not too much more time you have to wait before some of these behind-the-scenes photos give way to some actual promotional photos and other good stuff from the season.
