Shadowhunters season 3 episode 22 could end with a cliffhanger

Shadowhunters season 2 finale review

Shadowhunters season 3 episode 22 is going to be coming up on Freeform at some point next year and if we have it our way, it’s not going to be the final episode of the series. As it is right now, though, this is the final episode that Freeform is going to air.

For right now, though, we imagine that there is quite a struggle among the writers/producers in figuring out the proper way to tie together the story without knowing for sure the series’ future. You don’t want to offer so much closure that there’s not as much story to tell down the road should it get saved somewhere else. However, at the same time you don’t want to avoid closure at all, given that this puts you in a position where, if the show doesn’t come back, you’re left with more questions than answers and probably upset fans. Ideally, the right ending for Shadowhunters season 3 (and its two extra episodes recently ordered) is to tie enough stories up to be satisfying, while also still suggesting what the future could hold and what stories still could be out there to tell.

Luckily, it does appear that this is what executive producer Todd Slavkin is planning, based on a message he wrote on Twitter today (which CarterMatt has for you below). The hashtag #ImagineTheFuture suggests that the final episode of season 3 will leave open possibilities in terms of what could happen next to some of the characters moving forward. That’s exciting, and it also gives you yet another reason to #SaveShadowhunters. There should be an opportunity to see the remainder of the story through, even if it doesn’t last past a third season. That’s the philosophy we have on the subject, but unfortunately, we’re not a television network.

More reasons for hope

If there’s a reason to be inspired that social-media campaigns work, it is what happened over at Netflix with Lucifer. In a new interview Lucifer’s producers confirmed that one of the main reasons Netflix saved it was because of the immense social-media campaign. They took note of so many viewers’ passion and wanted to be a part of that. Even if Netflix isn’t the savior for Shadowhunters, shouldn’t there be someone else who wants a piece of that pie?

Hopefully, someone out there is listening, and we’re going to be here with more updates along the way.
