Blue Bloods season 10: Should we count on it happening?

Blue Bloods season 9

While we’re nowhere near the point right now to start talking Blue Bloods season 10 in a serious way, rest assured — it’s still floating around somewhere in the back of our brain, even as we wait for season 9 to premiere this fall.

Why think about it already? Much of that has to just start with the fact that it’s so rare for shows to make it this far. It’s an honor, and we definitely do think that it deserves to be treated as such. Think about how few shows ultimately get picked up for a season 10 — you’ll probably realize before long that it’s a very small list! It’s a sign that you have one of the most important shows of an era, and we think that for Blue Bloods in particular, this is one of the most unheralded shows of an era. Despite performing very well in the ratings (especially total viewers) over the past several years, it hasn’t been the recipient of a ton of buzz or anything of the like. It still exists as one of those under-the-radar series that has a loyal audience — so loyal, in fact, that it performs well on CBS Friday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern.

If the ratings for Blue Bloods stay anywhere close to where they’ve been as of late, it feels almost like a no-brainer that the show comes back for another season. The only thing that could eventually become a snag here comes via the cast — we’d obviously love to see all of them back for a season 10, but we never want to take anyone for granted and think that they would automatically want to return for another batch of episodes.

Odds are, we’ll learn about a Blue Bloods season 10 by the time that we hit the spring. Until then, we encourage that everyone continues to watch the show live to help ensure the ratings stay what they’ve been over the years.
