Blood & Treasure: Valor alum Matt Barr joins The Brave’s Sofia Pernas in new CBS series

CBS has announced that they have finally found their leading man for their new action-adventure series, Blood & Treasure, in Valor alum Matt Barr. He will star opposite The Brave alum Sofia Pernas.

According to Deadline, Barr is set to play Danny, a brilliant antiquities expert, who teams up with an art thief, Lexi (Pernas), to catch a ruthless terrorist who funds his attacks through stolen treasure. As they crisscross the globe hunting the terrorist, they find themselves caught in the center of a 2,000-year-old battle for the cradle of civilization.

Sounds great doesn’t it?

Danny is further described as an “astute, witty and natural investigator with an unwavering moral compass. Danny was a rising star in the FBI’s elite “Arts and Antiquities” division, tracking blood antiquities used to finance terrorist organizations, until his career was derailed by a mistake for which he’s never forgiven himself. He now has a chance at redemption, but it means teaming up with his ex, Lexi, a criminal with whom he has a complicated and passionate relationship.”

Well, now we wish it was 2019 because this show has everything that we enjoy in a series; action, adventure, high stakes, and good-old sexual tension. In addition, this is a new concept. Most of you know by now that we enjoy and appreciate shows that aren’t the same old same old. This isn’t another medical or political show. It’s a show about treasure hunting.

Now this isn’t to say we aren’t looking forward to the new medical shows coming in the fall, it’s just this show gets us excited. The casting of Barr and Pernas is going to have a great impact on the show. Sofia Pernas was amazing on The Brave and the writers found unique ways to show how diverse Pernas is as an actress. We hope the writers of Blood & Treasure will do the same. Give Pernas something to work with, give her challenge scenarios and give the character layers.

The same goes for Barr. Give him something to bounce right of Pernas’s Lexi. Make fans want to tune in every week to see the two of them figure out what to do next. The writers should make them equals.

Blood & Treasure is written by Matthew Federman and Stephan Scaia. Barr and Pernas will be joined by Katia Winter (Sleep Hollow), Michael James Shaw (Limitless), and James Callis (Battlestar Galactica). 

Blood & Treasure will premiere on CBS in the summer of 2019.
