Why a Life Sentence season 2 isn’t happening at The CW
Going into tonight’s finale, we unfortunately have some rather-sad news regarding a Life Sentence season 2: It’s not happening.
If you missed the news a number of weeks ago in the midst of a fairly-crazy May sweeps, the series starring Lucy Hale was formally canceled, with the main reason being quite similar to the reason many shows in its position get canceled: The ratings just weren’t there. It didn’t get off to a great start and after a small number of airings in its original Wednesday night timeslot, it was eventually moved over to Fridays where it aired for the remainder of its first season. That was certainly quite sad, but we also cannot say that it was altogether that much of a surprise. The series was formally canceled soon after that, and has struggled routinely to make much of a widespread impact ever since.
Do we think that the show could’ve performed better had it performed in the fall? Maybe, but we just think that there wasn’t something here that connected with viewers enough to save it, no matter when it aired. There just weren’t enough people who gave it a chance — if we were to theorize, we’d say that the cancer-related premiere may have scared some people off, given that this is a fairly depressing world these days and for many, they may be looking for subject matter that they find a little bit lighter on The CW. Life Sentence is a far more positive series than the title would first imply, but it is hard to necessarily convey that to people in small previews like the ones that aired before the premiere.
For now, we just hope that the Life Sentence finale tonight serves as a nice bit of closure for everyone out there who did enjoy the show. It would’ve been great to see it around longer, but such is the way of things with network TV sometimes.

I just finished binge watching this on Netflix and I thought it was a Netflix series. Can Netflix pick it up instead ? If the Title was a somber concern, can you change it ?
