Should Hawaii Five-0 season 9 keep a 25-episode order?

Even though there is no new Hawaii Five-0 episode between now and this fall, that doesn’t mean that we’re planning to stop discussing the show anytime soon! As a matter of fact, we think that we are going to have many more subjects to entertain ourselves in terms of discussions over the course of the next few weeks.

Today, what we are wondering about is simply this: Can we continue to maintain the massive 25-episode orders that we have seen the show receive in years past?

For most shows, doing this many episodes is almost unfathomable. Yet, for Hawaii Five-0 it’s become almost tradition. It has happened for half of the show’s run as of now, and the vast majority of seasons have had at least 23. There are a couple of reasons why this show has been able to make it work in a way that many other shows have not, and a lot of it starts with having a great ensemble cast. If this series relied almost entirely on just three or four cast members, there would be almost no way in which this could happen. However, because of the fact that there are so many notable characters, it allows there to be some balance. Different actors can carry the bulk of the work in some scenes while some others can shine in others.

When it comes to viewer demand, we certainly don’t think that this has altogether subsided all that much, either. It does appear as though viewers maintain the same level of interest now that they did with the show ages ago, and that does seem to be reasonably important to having this many episodes. It’s something that CBS clearly likes to do since it helps them to have a solid rock on the schedule. While we don’t think that doing this many episodes a year works for a lot of shows, it’s rather effective here since there are always plenty of cases to be explored and also different methods in which the story can be told. We certainly saw that this year which such episodes as the Christmas episode or seeing what Steve and Danny could be like as old men.
