Should Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD cross over right away?

Chicago Fire season 6 premiere

When it was announced that Chicago Fire, Chicago Medand Chicago PD would all be sharing a timeslot together for the upcoming season, there were of course many different questions that entered our brain. One of the biggest ones, though, was simply this: How quickly should the crossovers happen? Is it feasible to give us one almost right away? We definitely do think that there is some merit in that idea.

For starters, getting an almost-instant One Chicago event during the upcoming season would help to alleviate one of the biggest concerns that many people had with this past season: Where was the love for Chicago Med? Because of the later premiere date and the production schedule being different due to a shorter order, it was hard to coordinate big crossovers with that show last year. We saw little cameos from other franchise actors on the show, but really that was just about it. It would be great to have a chance to see some of these interactions and in doing a crossover early, you can remind yourself that these shows are all a part of the same world again.

Another reason to do it is pretty simple: The ratings. Three-part crossovers in the past have worked very well for NBC and with that in mind, there is certainly another great reasons to go through with it. We’d love to have an opportunity to see the shows get some big numbers again, mostly as a reminder that they don’t have to go anywhere in the near future. We don’t think any of their futures are in jeopardy, but this would be yet another way to get some reassurance.

If there is a reason why this won’t happen right away, though, it’s simply this: There is little reason for the network to make the move on this before resolving some of the big cliffhangers from the recent finales, especially when it comes to things like the Manstead proposal or Dawson’s departure. We don’t want to see these things get the short end of the stick and with that, we see the logic in waiting until maybe October or November to get the shows together … we just hope that there is no waiting beyond that.
