The Flash season 5: When should Killer Frost resurface?

The Flash season 5 is going to premiere this fall on The CW, and at the moment it feels pretty clear that we’re going to see Killer Frost be a part of it. In this case, it’s really more a matter of when we will see her more so than if. When you have a character who is this much of an iconic villain within the greater DC universe, you do want to find a way to utilize them.

At the end of the season 4 finale, it did appear that some of the seeds were sewn insofar as figuring out an interesting way to bring the character back to the series. We know now that in some way or another, Killer Frost was a part of Caitlin Snow even before what happened with the particle accelerator. With that, the main narrative engine for Caitlin now has to shift and we’re left trying to figure out one thing: How did all of this happen? How did she get her powers?

Of course, we do have plenty of theories out there including one that has her father involved and another that suggests that there is some sort of secret, hereditary element to her powers. We do think that this is a storyline that is worthy of diving into further — if the answers regarding the character were handed down right away, what that would effectively represent (at least to CarterMatt) is the show not taking her journey seriously. There is an opportunity here for real exploration, and to give Danielle Panabaker some excellent material in which she questions everything. In a world where there are so many superpowers, we do think that there is a whole lot of value in continuing to have characters who still ask questions. If the entire world just ends up feeling normal, then you start to get into situation where everything starts to feel a bit numb.

For Caitlin, we just want to see her fight for her powers and her alter ego, which is mostly ironic in that it’s something that initially she did not want at all.
