Blue Bloods season 9 won’t offer any Linda flashbacks

Blue Bloods season 9

Do we need to see any flashbacks to a different time in Danny Reagan’s life on Blue Bloods season 9 — in particular, a time in which his wife Linda was still alive or in the immediate aftermath of her death? That is a suggestion that is out there at the moment by some and understandably so. The death of Linda was one of the most shocking, sudden moments of the entire series and it’s still not the easiest thing in the world to digest. It’s perfectly understandable to want that given the abrupt nature of Amy Carlson’s departure and the sadness that had to do with Linda Reagan’s death.

Yet, it doesn’t seem as though any Linda flashbacks are going to happen, at least per what showrunner Rob Wade had to say on the subject via TVLine:

“We’ve never done flashbacks, and I don’t think I’d start now … The audience right now, if they haven’t digested it…. We’re moving on, and I really don’t know that it’s something I could revisit.”

We actually think we can go ahead and use this to apply it to just about flashbacks of everyone on the show. For example, while it would be great to be able to meet Frank’s late wife or Joe Reagan, that’s just not something the series is interested in doing. We like the idea of going back and meeting some past faces just because there’s such a rich world that has been established here, but at the same time, we understand why that is not something that the series is altogether eager to dive into or explore. They’re a story that is all about the now, and they tend to constantly look forward rather than look back. Basically, there’s a format and they like to stick to it.

Would you ever want a Blue Bloods flashback?
