Could a Once Upon a Time season 8 ever happen down the road?

Following tonight series finale, is there hope for a Once Upon a Time season 8 at some point far down the road?

Unfortunately, for the time being a Once Upon a Time season 8 is just not something CarterMatt envisions happening for a wide array of different reasons, including the fact that there is no real plan for it right now. One of the reasons why the series is ending when it is and we are not getting another season is due to the simple fact that the ratings just weren’t altogether great for season 7. With that in mind, there was very little reason to think that they were going to somehow be better for season 8. This is a show that had a really wonderful run and as a result of that, it is going to get a chance to end its story in a fantastic way. It is getting a series finale that offers up closure, and that is not something that many other shows get.

Yet, you can never say never when it comes to the future. Who knows what things are going to look like three or four years down the road? It is possible that at that point, ABC or the upcoming Disney-based streaming service sees some sort of value in an original scripted property either set in this world or based on some of its characters. We don’t ever see some sort of revival happening featuring the original cast in the future, but we certainly imagine that there are possibilities in terms of a spin-off that could be explored. It’s all about finding the right story and the right timing.

In the end, though, let us reiterate that we do not think that there is going to be a Once Upon a Time season 8 coming up in the immediate future. If it ever happens (and there are no talks at present), it would be far down the road.
