Wayward Sisters: Why The CW passed on Supernatural spin-off
So why move away from the idea of picking the show up? Speaking (per TVLine), CW programming head Mark Pedowitz simply suggested that the network just didn’t think that the story was there to continue:
“We are big fans of the characters and the women who played those characters… We hope they continue on as guest stars on Supernatural… But we did not feel creatively that the show was where we wanted it to be. And we felt we had a better shot with [Originals spinoff] Legacies.”
While we know that there were some mixed reviews of the Wayward Sisters backdoor pilot, there was certainly still room for growth — and, as we’ve noted, the majority of the feedback we’ve received was certainly positive. It was far and away stronger than what we saw for the Supernatural: Bloodlines spin-off when that was created.
As already reported, there is a petition out there to bring the show back — unfortunately, with these comments from Pedowitz we don’t really see anything happening. One of the things that we’ve regrettably seen with The CW in the Pedowitz era is once the network makes a decision they tend to hold pretty firm on it.
For some more of our personal thoughts on what transpired with Wayward Sisters, we suggest that you check out the video below (subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more). We would’ve loved to see the show happen, and we’ll try to hold out the slightest sliver of hope for something more in the future. Unfortunately, sometimes broadcast networks don’t give you what you want.
