Deception season 1 episode 10 review: Cameron takes on a secret society
This week’s Deception started off a little differently than normal. We were immediately introduced to a man refereed to a crank. A crank it someone who wants to tell everyone how a magician does a trick. They are usually wrong, but every once in a while they are right about something. So this crank is a YouTube host who tells his audience to tune in tomorrow because he had his best story yet. When he leaves that night, his car is blown up with him it. He knew something.
As Kay, Mike, and Cameron search Ernie the crank’s apartment, the team starts to believe that he might have known something and someone else was after it. Cameron claims that the paranoid people have the best hiding places and that they need to look for something that isn’t his. Kay spots the microwave and Mike confirms that someone of Ernie’s nature wouldn’t use one. Cameron discovers that Ernie had hidden notes on a Congressman and an astronaut in Bruce Connors. Bruce Connors informs the group that Ernie followed him around because he believed that Bruce never went to space. They then visit Alicia Davis, his daughter, who he sent a VCR video to her.
The tape reveals that Ernie found evidence that a secret society called “Corpus Veil” exists. The group is shown with black hoods and swords walking around a young girl who might be executed, but Ernie’s presence stops the group. In the madness, Kay spots Bruce Connors watch, one that only astronauts get. Meanwhile, Deakins won’t let them question the Senator. However, Cameron and Kay find a clue that leads them to a hardware store where people in gala attire are walking in to and where wait staff is unloading food and drinks. Kay and Cameron disguise as wait staff where Kay notices Alicia is there as well. Alicia followed them to the secret societies lair. Once deep inside, Cameron find the chair the young girl was sitting in during Ernie’s video. However, Cameron is stunned and he wakes up in the chair. Bruce Connors reveals himself, tells Cameron that it was an initiation and that they didn’t kill Ernie for fear of bringing unwanted attention. Bruce gives Cameron “the tour” and reveals that Cameron’s great-grandfather was a member. However, Mike and Kay realize that Ernie was killed because a member of the club bribed a federal judge who’s also member. He accidentally caught the exchange and didn’t even realize it.
Meanwhile, Jonathan has been set up as the killer in a prison murder and needs the Deception team’s skills to pull off getting into the prison supervisor’s computer to erase his name.
Overall, it was an exciting episode that played off a different format, which was great. Despite Deception being cancelled we will still be reviewing the series.
