Shadowhunters season 4: What are the renewal odds now?
At the moment, we are starting to get near the point where Freeform will need to make a decision in the event they want the production schedule to be roughly the same moving forward as what it’s been so far. The Shadowhunters season 4 writers room needs to start off this summer in order for filming to begin this fall and while it’s not 100% necessary that we get that in order to have more of the show, it certainly would make matters so much easier.
At least when it comes to the ratings for Tuesday night’s new episode, they stayed fairly steady with the ones from the past couple of episodes: A 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic to go along with just over 400,000 total viewers. This is a solid audience for the show and it seems as though it has recovered in some way from its earlier struggles this season.
It is with this in mind that we are feeling cautiously optimistic now that a season 4 renewal is going to happen. The live ratings have stabilizied and we’ve long said that this is at least partially important to the success of the series. It is true that there are a number of other components to the renewal effort, including international viewing, DVR ratings, streams, and social-media impressions, but live US ratings are the foundation. Everything else should help Shadowhunters to push through and get what so many of us know that it actually does reserve: More episodes. Freeform should have some confidence now and if the final episodes of season 3A stay reasonably strong, we anticipate that there will be a renewal coming not too long after that. Stay tuned…
