Once Upon a Time season 7 episode 22 spoilers: ‘Leaving Storybrooke’

On Once Upon a Time season 7 episode 22, the magic spell is finally going to be over. The series finale is entitled “Leaving Storybrooke,” and this is going to be a chance to see everything with this story come full-circle.

If you think back to the pilot for the show, then you remember how much of the journey began: Emma Swan arrived (thanks to Henry) in this quaint Maine community, one that just so happened to be stuffed full of quirky fairy-tale characters and all sorts of other surprises. Emma was able to save the town from the Evil Queen and in turn, eventually the Queen became more of her true self in Regina Mills. The story changed and we started to get to know these people better away from their fairy-tale characters and more as who they are as people. There were ways for villains to become heroes and, regrettably, for heroes to become villains.

Now, we’re getting set to see everything start to wrap up with a story that is all about trying to find happy endings while, in turn, trying to stop one of the worst evils that our heroes have ever encountered. With Wish-Realm Rumple what we’re seeing is a shadow self for Rumpelstiltskin, what he was and what he could still be. He’s uninhibited and uncaged in a way in which we haven’t seen from the more nuanced character in quite some time.

Much like tonight’s episode, the series finale is going to feature characters both old and new plus hopefully a few surprises and callbacks to the story that was back when the epic journey first started. It’s been a wonderful ride but, unfortunately the journey of Once Upon a Time now has to reach its end. It doesn’t seem as though there’s any hope for a season 8 revival, but when you think about it, it may be best that the show can really tie itself up without any loose threads. Some stories are just better off when you know they have a definite ending.

What do you think should come on Once Upon a Time season 7 episode 22, and how do you think the story as a whole should end? Let us know some of your reactions in the attached comments!
