NBC picks up Manifest from Mysteries of Laura’s creator Jeff Rake
NBC has announced another drama from Mysteries of Laura creator, Jeff Rake, titled Manifest, to its 2018-2019 fall lineup. It will mark the return to TV for former Once Upon A Time actor, Josh Dallas, who left the show after Season 6. Manifest is already gearing up to be one of the most anticipated pilots of the new season after many people are comparing it to the popular show, Lost. The show is being referred to as “Lost-in-reverse”.
“In this character-driven, high-concept mystery thriller, a plane disappears from radar and returns years later after being untraceable and presumed lost at sea. No time has passed for those on the plane, but for their loved ones at home, many years have gone by. The series follows their personal lives as well as the larger mystery and purpose that is their destiny.”
The logline intrigues and also has us asking many questions. It’s going to be interesting to see the direction the writers have planned because there many ways to go with this show. The lives of the characters are going to be forever changed and how they will react to losing 5 years is going to be great to watch.
The cast also includes Melissa Roxburgh (Valor), J.R. Ramirez, Athena Karkanis, Parveen Kaur, and Luna Blaise. So will their characters connect in some way after their experience on the plane or will the writers make it so there are multiple stories happening? How did time pass in the world, but not on the plane? These are the questions we have and we will certainly tune in to watch. The writers have set up this show in a great way, because having people asking all these questions will get more to watch when it premieres. We also hope that NBC releases a teaser trailer soon because we want a sneak peek at this show. Overall, we think it’s a great concept and a great idea. Lost was a great and popular TV show and planning a series in reverse from that show is an interesting idea. We hope it’s successful.
Here’s a more in-depth synopsis for the show from Entertainment Weekly.
“When Montego Air Flight 828 landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight, the crew and passengers were relieved. Yet in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years, and their friends, families, and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds, and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. From Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke comes an emotionally rich, unexpected journey into a world grounded in hope, heart, and destiny.”
